Morning Run-Through 9:00AM, June 11th
The morning of the recital we will have a run through of the show beginning at 9:00 AM June 11th. This run through is different from dress rehearsal because it is run in real time with each piece flowing into the next. We do this to prepare the students for the real speed of the show and costume change times.
Run through: Begins 9:00 AM
8:30 AM: 1st act Call time
9:45 AM: 2nd act Call time
THE FOLLOWING CLASSES ARE NOT REQUIRED TO ATTEND THE RECITAL MORNING RUN-THROUGH:
Little Dreamers, Tiny Hoppers, Ballet 1, Ballet 2, Jazz A/ Tap A, and Hip hop A
We feel these children are very young and our priority is for them to enjoy the recital, not become stressed out by doing too much in one day.
Run-Through Check-in / Check-out:
All students need to be checked in for the Run-Through at the back door of the theater.
If your child is leaving the theater between the Sunday run-through and the performance call time, you must make sure they are signed out and signed back in at the time of the show call. This means they have to sign in for the run through, sign out when they leave, and sign back in at call time.
We have rented the UPAC lunch room for students and parents to bring lunch and eat at the theater if you would like to stay on location the whole day.
UPAC Lunchroom:
The lunch room entrance is located in the lobby, to the right, before the exit doors. There are large tables here where you may eat a packed lunch with your child.
PLEASE KEEP THE LUNCH ROOM VERY CLEAN! We are the only studio UPAC rents the lunch room to because of our precedent of keeping it very clean. Please make sure you throw away your garbage and wipe all food crumbs from your table when you are finished. If you see garbage or mess that someone else left, we kindly ask you clean it up. We would like to maintain our ability to rent this room again in the future.

If you are the parent of a Little Dreamer this may be a first for you. Don’t panic. Rehearsal Week (June 7 – June 11)
In the next week or so you will receive a schedule of all the rehearsals scheduled from the week before the show through the actual day of the show.
Please understand these rehearsals are considered mandatory. If you cannot attend a rehearsal there may be slight choreographic changes made that your child is not learning. All of these rehearsals are designed specifically for the children to transition to the theater. The extra preparation will ensure our students have a joyful and stress free recital experience. While we cannot force anyone to attend, we strongly encourage you to make this a priority.
Schedule Outline:
- Studio Rehearsals: Wednesday June 7 – Friday June 9th
- Dress Rehearsal at UPAC: Saturday June 10th
- Recital Run Through at UPAC: morning of the show on June 11th.
Not every child will be attending every rehearsal so read these schedules carefully when they come to you. Please understand that the more pieces your child is in the more rehearsals they will have.
Rehearsal call times are very important!! We have many, many dancers and rehearsals are run on a strict schedule.
*You must arrive 15 minutes before your rehearsal call and expect to stay 15 minutes after your rehearsal window. If a child is late to rehearsal they will miss the rehearsal. We will not wait or rerun the child’s piece. The rehearsal must go on!
Safety & Check-in at the Theater:
During the UPAC rehearsals your child must be checked in and out at the door around the back of the theater.
Children of a young age cannot be left unattended during the dress rehearsals. This means you must stay in the house (audience area) until your child’s piece is called and you must remain until your child is done with rehearsal.
On the rehearsal day parents WILL BE allowed to enter through the side stage door and follow their children to the house (audience area) where they will wait for their rehearsal call. This is because on the rehearsal day the front entrance of UPAC will be closed.
When facing the entrance of UPAC please proceed to the corner of the block towards your left, turn right at the corner and find a fenced in alley about 100 ft. from the corner. There is a stage door where dancers will check in and enter.
However, on show day parents WILL NOT be allowed to enter through the side door unless you are working the show and have a backstage pass.
Dress Rehearsal at UPAC: Parents of young children must remain in the theater in the audience section seated where we can find you.
Show Day! (June 11th)
If you have a young dancer (Little Dreamers, Tiny Hoppers, and Ballet Levels 1 and other Levels A) you will not be required to be at the run through on the morning of the show unless there is a specific need and direction given for an extra rehearsal. If you are not sure if your child’s attendance is required, please ask their teacher. Usually Little Dreamers, Tiny Hoppers, Ballet 1, Hip Hop A, and Jazz A/Tap are not required to attend but please double check with the teachers in case of a change.
If your child is leaving the theater on Sunday June 11th between the morning run through and the call time you must make sure they are signed out and signed back in at the time of the show call time. This means they have to sign in at run through, sign out and then sign back in at call time.
Show Call Time & Check-in:
***Show Call is 1 PM for everyone except Little Dreamers and Tiny Hoppers
***Little Dreamers and Tiny Hoppers are not due at the theater until 1:30 PM (ARRIVE IN FULL COSTUME. READY TO DANCE.)
Every student performing must be checked in at the back Door of UPAC.
No parents are allowed backstage! This is a safety issue and it is the theater’s rule. Unless you have volunteered to be a helper, and therefore have a backstage pass, or are performing, you will not pass beyond the backstage check-in point. You will not be allowed to escort your child to their dressing room, to the bathroom or anywhere else. We have a very well organized group of people working backstage to help your children with their needs.
*If your child is in only one number they must come to the call in full costume and makeup.
After checking in they will be escorted into the house (audience area) where they will take their seats and watch the show until it is their turn to dance. They will be escorted by a chaperone to line up backstage just before they will perform.
Little Dreamer Parents:
If you are the parent of a Little Dreamer this show protocol may be a first for you. Don’t panic.
After you check-in your child at the backstage door, and leave your little one, you can walk directly around to the front of the theater and it will almost be show time so the house will open. You can go in and take your seat and you will see your little one in the first 3 rows to your left.
If your child has only one number or is done early and you would like them to sit with you when they are done you must sign the child out with one of the chaperones! We are doing headcounts all the time and we do not want to lose anyone. If you take your child without signing them out, we will not know where the child is and we will stop the show until the child is found. We take this responsibility very seriously. Please help us do our job. Sign your child out if you are taking your child to sit with you.
Please do so in between dances so you don’t disturb dancers on stage.
***Remember, you must alert one of the chaperones that you are taking your child.
Chaperones and Assistants:
If you are interested in helping during our show please email Lara at dreamstudiodance@gmail.com or Patty at dreamstudio.manager@gmail.com.
Keep in mind you will have to work through the show but you will be able to watch your child dance. We need all kinds of helpers for backstage: house, hair and makeup and more. If you assist or chaperone at the show you will get a backstage pass and therefore do not need to purchase a ticket for yourself. Please understand you do not get to choose what job you do backstage, and you will need to help various children.
SPECIAL UPAC RULES!!!
UPAC has rules in place that we must follow.
Please understand these are not our rules. (Nor do we get to choose our show or rehearsal dates, but we are doing our best to provide everyone with the best experience possible!)
1.Parents are not allowed to videotape the show or use flash photography during the show.
You are welcome to videotape the dress rehearsal where the house is not totally dark. Again, this is not our rule. It is an insurance issue for the theater.
We have hired a videographer for the show and the video will be available for purchase after the show.
Students that are performing will continue to have their reserved seats for watching and they will not need a ticket.
2. No eating in the lobby/theater
There will be absolutely no eating in the lobby or theater. Please respect this rule. You may eat in the alley or in the adjacent party room we have rented for you this year.
Please feel free to donate cases of water and other goodies for the party room, as well as your time to help keep it clean.
Please respect this space!! Clean up after yourselves and do not go into the kitchen area!!!!!
3. There will be absolutely NO PARENTS backstage unless you have a backstage pass and are working.
This is an insurance nightmare for the theater. Their security will not let you backstage. In past years we have had parents come to the backstage door and say Lara gave them permission to go backstage. We will not give anyone who is not officially working backstage permission to enter the backstage area. Volunteer assignments and badges are prepared prior to the show day. Again, this is a strict rule of UPAC. No one without a backstage pass will be allowed backstage.
Again, if you have a dancer with only one number, you must drop them off at the backstage door where they will be checked in and escorted to their seat in the theater. The parent cannot escort the child backstage.
Little Dreamers, TIny Hoppers and other very young children must report at the backstage door in FULL COSTUME no later than 1:30 PM on the day of the show.
Everyone else has a call time of 1:00 PM.
Dancers must be in full costume and make up if you choose to come at the call time and not before.
